History:
Mrs. Salunkhe, a 66-year-old woman, was admitted with a history of chronic low back pain lasting for 1 year, along with left leg radicular pain that had developed over the past month. She experienced significant difficulty in walking, sitting, and even turning in bed. On examination, she presented with a forward-stooped gait and was unable to perform heel or toe walking. These symptoms indicated severe functional limitations likely due to lumbar canal stenosis.
MRI & X-Ray Findings:
Grade I listhesis of L3 over L4
Severe lumbar canal stenosis at L3-L4 and L4-L5 levels
Disc degeneration and disc bulges
Thickening of the ligamentum flavum
Compression of L4 and L5 nerve roots
Osteoporotic spine with Modic changes
Surgical Solution:
On 10/04/2024, Mrs. Sallunke underwent L3-L5 Posterior Spinal Fusion with Fixation under general anesthesia. The surgery was performed by Dr. Sangram Rajale, utilizing advanced spine stabilization techniques to decompress the affected nerves and restore proper spinal alignment.
Post-Surgery Outcome:
Pain-free at rest and during movement
Able to walk upright with confidence
Complete relief from radicular pain
Steady neurological recovery
Discharged in stable condition, walking independently
